How a cartomiser found in Majority of e-cigarettes is constructed.

If you look carefully at the picture above, you will see that inside a cartomiser is a heater wire that has an insulating tube.  Wrapped around  is a fibrous wooly sponge that is impregnated with E-liquid, or propylene glycol.   This is the active substance that produces vapour when heated.

So what are the issues with this design?

Firstly , In the construction, e-liquid is injected into the cartomiser and a CAP/SEAL is placed at the end to stop the liquid evaporating. In practise it is very difficult to stop this and when you start smoking a cigarrete with this cartridge and remove the plastic cap, your e-cigarrete can LEAK and will start evaporating very quickly.  This means that there can be no consistency in the dose of  the Nicotine from puff to puff and there is very poor shelf life from the date of purchase.

Try this for your self; If you take a  new cigarette  and  take the plastic cap off and then smell the end, you will see how pungent the smell of the evaporating liquid is immediately. As this evaporates, the concentration of the nicotine from the liquid also varies.  With a Cartomiser you are simply not getting the stated fix of nicotine that you expect with every puff.  This design is also very wasteful.  If you open a cartomiser after the last puff , the woolly sponge  can still contain unto 30% of the E-Liquid.

New EU legislation is about to be introduced such that all E-Cigs will have to be licenced within two years.   A licence will only be granted once any manufacturer can guarantee that the delivery of the nicotine is consistent with each and every puff, the quality of the ingredients are safe and within agreed limits, and that the content of the vapours are declared.   In cartomisers, its not uncommon that the highly reactive Nicotine in the E-Liquid will react with the metals in the heater element, the solder and the iron/steel outer shell of the cartomiser casing.    Dont be surprised that you are breathing in other harmful gasses.

Note in  UK,  all popular e-cigs above come from the similar design patent of Ruyan and are manufactured in China.  Brands that you may be using include VYPE,NICOLITE,10-MOTIVES, SKY-CIGS,E-LITES etc etc.
